![]() The result brings the restaurant dining experience into your living room like never before.”įounded by technology entrepreneur Devin Wade, industry veteran Chef Scott Howard, and Boise restaurateur Barry Werner, Crave Hospitality Group opened its first so-called Crave Collective in Boise in November. “Crave has brought together a collection of top chefs and restaurateurs on one platform to provide an elevated experience that is well-beyond that of third-party delivery companies. “Consumer demand for restaurant delivery has been rapidly growing for the past five years with the pandemic only accelerating this trend and expanding the customer base,” said Mike Self, General Partner of StageDotO Ventures. The consumer reaction, evidenced by higher order values and repeat order volume, has certainly exceeded our expectations.” “This allows us to meet the exacting standards of our restaurant partners, build customer relationships for them, and create operating efficiencies across the board – all of which are important for profitability. “We are a hospitality-focused company powered by a proprietary technology suite, order bundling across our multiple restaurant partners, and a dedicated fleet of employee-drivers who power the customer experience much the same way a waiter or waitress would do in a restaurant,” says Crave Co-Founder Devin Wade. Rather than partner with gig workers for delivery, as is the case with most ghost kitchen operations, Crave employs its own driving staff, which it dubs “mobile servers.” Key Features include: ordering interfaces, real-time menu management, inventory tracking/prediction, order workflow, and customizable analytics. Its custom built Restaurant Management System is touted as the first platform designed specifically for multi-kitchen remote management that can handle all of front of house, back of house, administration and reporting needs. ![]() The collection of brands operate only via UberEats, DoorDash and Postmates.Ĭrave has several competitive points of differentiation, starting with its proprietary technology stack for managing orders and delivery. Since the start of COVID-19, Nextbite has reportedly launched 15 brands and has added over 1,000 delivery-only restaurants nationwide. Powered by Ordermark’s technology, Nextbite’s turnkey delivery-only brands result in substantial incremental revenue growth for restaurants. ![]() With Nextbite, qualifying restaurants can offer popular delivery-only brands out of their existing restaurant space. In October, Ordemark closed a $120 million Series C funding round. Virtual brands empower independent restaurants to increase their revenue and profitability by offering virtual-only menus through online delivery channels.Ī good example is Ordermark, which operates Nextbite, one of the earliest and fastest-growing pioneers in the virtual restaurant space. The rise of ghost kitchens and virtual restaurants, often referred to as the third wave of food delivery, have paved the way for a larger addressable market for online food delivery. ![]() Locations include Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex Mesa and Chandler, Arizona and Denver, Colorado.Ī growing number of companies have been getting into the ghost kitchen space, and in several cases have recently secured large funding rounds. Other participants include Meridian, Idaho-based investment firm and real estate developer Capital Eleven and undisclosed individual investors.Īccording to a press statement, Crave plans to use the funding to build pre-opening teams for the next four Crave Collective facilities opening this year, followed by 10 more in 2022. Boise, Idaho-based Crave Hospitality Group, a restaurant technology startup that aims to bring a collection of cloud kitchens together for home delivery, has secured $7.3 million seed funding round led by StageDotO, a venture capital firm that focuses on early-stage companies.

![]() The Natural History of Shrews, Cornell University Press, Ithaca, NY (1990). These results strongly indicated that platypus venom contains tissue kallikrein-like protease(s), and its proteolytic activity might synergistically contribute to toxicity through the specific cleavage of other venom constituents.ġ M. ![]() We also established that its proteinous venom fraction strongly hydrolyzed Pro–Phe–Arg–MCA and cleaved a human low-molecular-weight kininogen (LK), similar to porcine pancreas kallikrein. This heptapeptide induced a significant increase in i in IMR-32 cells at 75 μM had relatively specific affinities for glutamate, histamine, and GABA A receptors and facilitated neurogenic twitching in guinea pig ileum specimens at 30 μM. Guided by this assay, we identified 11 unique peptides, including peptide H–His–Asp–His–Pro–Asn–Pro–Arg–OH, which coincided with the N-terminal domain residues of Ornithorhynchus venom C-type natriuretic peptide (OvCNP). We found that crude platypus venom produced potent Ca 2+ influx in human neuroblastoma IMR-32 cells. However, the structure and function of the poison’s active compounds are still imcompletely characterized. The adult male platypus carries a spur on each hind leg, which it uses to inject competitors with poison. Among them, the duckbill platypus ( Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is one of the two venomous Australian mammals. Similar spurs are found in many archaic mammal groups, indicating that this is an ancient characteristic for mammals as a whole, and not exclusive to the platypus or other monotremes.Venomous mammals are rare, and only a few species in the orders Insectivora and Monotremata produce toxic venom. Since only males produce venom and production rises during the breeding season, it may be used as an offensive weapon to assert dominance during this period. ![]() The venom appears to have a different function from those produced by non-mammalian species its effects are not life-threatening to humans, but nevertheless powerful enough to seriously impair the victim. The female platypus, in common with echidnas, has rudimentary spur buds that do not develop (dropping off before the end of their first year) and lack functional crural glands. Venom is produced in the crural glands of the male, which are kidney-shaped alveolar glands connected by a thin-walled duct to a calcaneus spur on each hind limb. ![]() Oedema rapidly develops around the wound and gradually spreads throughout the affected limb. Although powerful enough to kill smaller animals such as dogs, the venom is not lethal to humans, but the pain is so excruciating that the victim may be incapacitated. The function of defensins is to cause lysis in pathogenic bacteria and viruses, but in platypuses, they also are formed into venom for defense. The DLPs are produced by the immune system of the platypus. While both male and female platypuses are born with ankle spurs, only the spurs on the male's back ankles deliver venom, composed largely of defensin-like proteins (DLPs), three of which are unique to the platypus. ![]() The man recovered at home and was released from in-home isolation on February 20. WineBottler utilizes the Wine environment to port the Windows applications to work on Mac. It ONLY runs in Windows, but it works flawlessly with WineBottler. It's an ANSI text-based game, but in Windows I used a helper program called SWATH, which basically allows for scripting and some automation for game tasks such as port pair trading, ship-to-ship and ship-to-planet combat, port robbing, planet-to-port trading, etc, in a nicely laid-out GUI. I can only report on one program with which it works so far.I'm a big fan of a REALLY old, pre-internet game called "TradeWars 2002", which was originally played on BBS systems (but now there are game server websites). No sooner had Mills died, than Jones started performing under the stage title "Florence Mills' kid sister", and parodying Mills' routine, including her singing style, capitalizing on Mills' fame and her own visual similarity to Mills. Kane was clearly not attempting to imitate the appearance and sound of a nine year old black girl in a ballet costume.įurther research reveals that Jones herself borrowed her own stage appearance from an earlier black performer, Florence Mills, who died in 1927. However, in reality Jones was only nine years old at this time, and often performed in ballet leotards, ballet shoes, and a cap, looking absolutely nothing like the curvaceous adult character Betty Boop who wore a short black dress and curled hair, and also nothing like Helen Kane, an equally curvy woman in her 20s who wore also wore short dresses. Memes, websites, and Youtube videos describe Esther Jones as a "black woman" performing at the Cotton Club at the time the Betty Boop character was invented. ![]() Other trial testimony included statements from women voice acting Betty Boop, who confirmed they had been chosen due to their ability to impersonate Kane's voice and style, and had specifically practiced doing so. Jones did not testify, and Bolton said he did not know where she was. ![]() Īdditionally, the film of Esther Jones which was supposed to show her using the contested singing style and catchphrase well before Kane, was found to have been made in 1928 when Jones was around ten years old, seven months after Kane had already been using the "boop a doop" catchphrase, and only showed Jones singing Kane's own songs in Kane's style. Under cross examination, Jones' manager Bolton conceded there was no evidence Kane had ever visited Jones' performance apart from his own claim, could not provide any specific details about when Kane was supposedly there, admitted Jones had never actually used the contested "boop a doop" phrase, despite using similar wording, and also acknowledged he had been paid $200 by Fleischer's studio to give witness for the defense. If you find the story online, this is where it usually ends, claiming Helen Kane still stole from Esther Jones, even if Max Fleischer didn't. Without deciding if Betty Boop had been based on either Kane or Jones, the judge decided Kane had no claim to originality due to her apparent imitation of Jones, and so Fleischer's Betty Boop character was not infringing on her rights. Fleischer's lawyer also cited a short sound test film allegedly showing Jones singing with the same style, using the "boop a doop" catchphrase. Lou Bolton, Jones' manager, asserted Kane had only started using the "boop a doop" phrase after having visited one of Jones' performances. However, Fleischer completely denied the Betty Boop character had been based on Kane.Īt trial, Fleischer's lawyer claimed Kane herself had taken the phrase "boop a doop" and her singing style from Esther Jones. It was not Esther Jones, but a white woman, Helen Kane, who sued Fleischer and his studio for US$250,000 for copying her visual appearance, including hair style, dress, makeup, and voice, as well as the "boop a doop" catchphrase she used while singing. The character first appeared as a white woman with a long poodle like face, and drooping ears, and only later developing into a normal looking woman. Thirdly, the Betty Boop character was originally based on a French poodle not on Jones. Secondly, Esther Jones never claimed she was the original inspiration for the Betty Boop character, and never showed any interest in claiming any rights to it. It's a photo of Ukranian model Model Oyla (Модель Оля), in 2008, dressed as Betty Boop.

Today, Quincy Hall continues to operate as part of the Faneuil Hall Marketplace complex, which consists of the North and South It contains 128 market stalls and stores. Inside, the building is supported by massive cast iron pillars along the central aisle. The wings are composed of a remarkable serial post-and-lintel structure of granite slabs, which allows for the large round-arched and square-headed windows. Each wing ends in a portico of Doric-style columnns. The market hall is a two-story structure built in a Greek Revival style, with two long gable-roofed wings stretching to the east and west from a central rotunda with a lantern dome enclosed by a stone parapet. A site was chosen close to the waterfront, and the old Town Dock was silted up and sturdy wharves built upon which the new market hall could be constructed. Construction began in 1826, and was completed the following year, at a cost of more than $1,100,000. Local architect Alexander Parris was commissioned to design the structure. However, it had become apparent that this was inadequate for a growing local economy, and a new development was proposed to the east. In the 1820s, most mercantile activities took place in the nearby Faneuil Hall. The hall was named after Josiah Quincy, the mayor of Boston from 1823 to 1828 and the man responsible for organizing the construction of this market. |
